Shipyard Gebr. Kooiman signs conversion contract
Shipyard Gebr. Kooiman BV at Zwijndrecht, subsidiary of The Kooiman Group,

has signed a contract for a conversion project at the sea going dredger “Ostsee”, a member of the fleet of Maritime Construction Services SA of Luxembourg. The Ostsee is a so-called Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger and has been built by the Peene-Werft in 1995.
The conversion amongst others involves the replacement of the electrical drives of the dredging installation by direct diesel drives and related alterations on the vessel.
Two existing jet water pumps with electric motors will be replaced by two new Nijhuis pumps with a higher working pressure. For driving these jet water pumps, Mitsubishi S16R-C2MPTK have been selected, each of 1,250kW. Of one of the two dredge pumps, the electric motor will be replaced by a Mitsubishi S16R2-T2MPTAW diesel engine of 1,600kW. The diesel engines will be supplied by Koedood Dieselservice.
The bow thruster space will be converted into an engine room and as such be provided with a funnel, box cooler bins, extra insulation, engine room ventilation provisions, a compulsory fire extinguishing system, required escape provisions, etc.
The entire engineering is carried out by Design and Engineering Office Kooiman B.V at Zwijndrecht. The electrical installation will be provided by Technisch Bureau Mous BV, also from Zwijndrecht. The actual works will be carried out at the sister company Shipyard Hoebee BV.
The Ostsee (100 x 17,75 meter and 4.745 ton deadweight) has been dry docked at Shipyard Hoebee. With this dry docking, the new slipway of Hoebee again has convincingly proven herself!
